Sales Engineer

Job Summary:

Responsible for providing technical and sales support and expertise to the company’s sales staff, manufacturers’ representatives and customers. Develops product designs and interprets applications for customers. Provides technical support by providing information for customer specific applications. Conducts seminars to demonstrate products and evaluate customer needs.

Responsible for directing the sales of all products and/or services as assigned. Maintains awareness of competitor pricing and positioning of products base. Monitors customer requirements for both existing and future products. Assist with the production of customer switch drawings and the compliance matrix.

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

TECHNICAL

  • Provides timely response to customers and reps, with regards to technical and application questions
  • Develops expertise to fully understand company’s product lines and their applications to customers’ products. These products cover the full breadth of the company’s products offering including switches, controllers, LRU, DES and Sub-Systems.
  • Increases customer and sales product knowledge to support “design-ins” of company’s products. Implements customer and sales education where needed.
  • Proposes product modifications to enhance products acceptance by customers. Consults with engineering to determine technical and economic feasibility of proposed modifications.
  • Researches and prepares customer proposals for products or products modifications. Negotiates contract specifications with customers. Responsible for technical accuracy of specifications in these developments.
  • Manages technical development projects for customer specific requirements (NRE)

MARKETING/SALES

  • Travels within assigned markets calling on target accounts with assigned sales reps to assure adequate account penetration.
  • Assists in the development of the sales plan for established and new products. Develops sales strategies to obtain objectives in assigned products lines.
  • Participates in the costing and pricing of products. Maintains awareness of positioning of product base.
  • Provides competitive analysis of design performance features, products availability, pricing and promotions.
  • Monitors customer requirements for both existing and future products. Formulates plans for future new products.

Accountability:

Performance is measured by the quality and quantity of response to customers and salespersons in providing the sales and technical help they need to design in Staco Systems products.

Skills/Experiences:

  • Must have exceptional technical skills in application of mechanics, electronics, and control circuitry to the man/machine interface.
  • Good communication skills are required.
  • A BSME or BSEE are recommended.
  • 15 to 20 years in Aerospace environment with respect to system integration.
  • Additionally working knowledge in ship/ground vehicle/Air LRU and MBA would be helpful.

Physical Standards:

Adequate performance requires the ability to sit for longs periods of time to accommodate a light travel schedule (approximately 3-4 international trips per year) and could require lifting/carrying up to fifty pounds of product samples, display cases, power supplies, notebook computers, and anything else required to conduct demonstrations/seminars at customer’s sites.
